Treasures to discover

in Talmont-Saint-Hilaire

Talmont Castle: In the Footsteps of Richard the Lionheart

Erected in the 11th century, the Château de Talmont is an ancient coastal defence fortress (at the time, the ocean came right to the foot of its walls). Property of the famous King of England Richard the Lionheart, the site today offers you a fun immersion into the Middle Ages:

  • Guided tours of the keep and the curtain walls.
  • Medieval knight and falconry shows during the summer.
  • Historical workshops for children (archery, calligraphy, costumes).

Le Havre du Payré and the Veillon Beach

Classé Grand Site de Vendée, the Havre du Payré is a preserved natural space of pure splendour. The River Payré winds its way behind the magnificent Veillon Beach, a vast expanse of fine sand bordered by maritime pine forests and dunes. It is one of the most beautiful spots in the department for swimming, kitesurfing, or a contemplative walk.

Port Bourgenay and oyster farming

Stroll along the pontoons of Port Bourgenay, a very lively marina with its summer night markets, bars and restaurants. Also, don't miss a stop in the heart of the Guitar maker, a charming village of oyster farmers nestled along the estuary. You can enjoy fresh Vendée oysters directly from the producer, overlooking the oyster beds.
