Within 30 minutes of the campsite, the Vendée landscape transforms to reveal the magic of the marshes. Shaped by humans and nature over the centuries, these expanses stretch for thousands of hectares, offering ever-changing light shows, a paradise for migratory birds and local traditions.

The Marais d'Olonne

and its salt marshes

Located just behind the coastal dunes, on the edge of the Sables-d'Olonne, the Olonne Marshes covers over 1,000 hectares of rivers, hummocks and basins.

The White Gold of Vendée: This is where the salt workers continue the traditional sea salt harvest. You can visit active salt pans, learn how the channels work, and leave with local fleur de sel.
Unusual walks: Boat or canoe trips are offered for close-up observation of the incredibly rich wildlife (herons, little egrets, avocets).

The Breton Vendée Marsh

The Marô

Heading north along the coast, discover the Breton Marsh of Vendée, a vast, flat, wild territory that stretches to Bourgneuf Bay.

A unique heritage: Be sure to visit the eco-museums (such as Le Daviaud) or to admire the «bourrines», those traditional dwellings made of earth, reeds and straw.
Le Passage du Gois It is in the heart of this marsh that the legendary submersible road lies, linking the mainland to the Île de Noirmoutier at low tide.
